Robert Gurny Ph.D. is currently President of the School of Pharmaceutical Sciences at the University of Geneva, Switzerland and professor and Head of the Department of Pharmaceutics and Biopharmaceutics.
Professor Gurny heads a group of more than twenty researchers. He is one of the pioneers in the field of innovative new drug delivery systems to the eye. The improvement of ocular therapy, especially intravitreal and subretinal medication, represents one of the fields of high interest and includes the design of new carrier systems for new drugs for the treatment of diseases such as PVR and macular degeneration. He has also developed new degradable biopolymers, long acting implants and more recently he has established a working group on protein and peptide delivery. He is the author of more than 350 peer reviewed articles, several books, more than 150 abstracts of presentations at international meetings.
He is the author or co-author of over 30 patents. Until now, 35 PhD theses were presented under his direction and 13 theses are currently in progress. He has been given numerous awards and distinctions. He is also the Editor-in-chief of the prestigious European Journal of Pharmaceutics and Biopharmaceutics.
